Approximately 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Police say they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state early analysis indicate the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; officials are presently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the public for information.
A high-ranking political figure commented the attack made him speechless and required to be addressed promptly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right attack in 2020," he posted on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on people of migrant background in February 2020.
