Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a former world number one, has endured a torrid period, achieving just one match at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in specific - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden trophy since the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface since that period of the previous year.

Success also means the Russian has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 various events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters at once, so to win a championship is really nice," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six finals, including in the German tournament previously this season.

His counter-punching approach and recurring emotional displays on court had caused observers to question if his ability to perform at the elite level was finished.

However the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and perform positively, supported by an improved service.

The champion fought back from a break down in the first set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the final five points to go ahead.

The pair swapped breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his maiden ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to force a final set.

He rescued four initial opportunities in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev secured victory with a shot at the net area, with Moutet incapable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
