The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a leading film company and bringing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is why Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
